The diagram shows how to recycle organic waste to produce garden fertiliser.
The operation goes in four stages according to the information shown in the diagram. First, we can see there is a plastic container with 2 cubic metres in capacity and four air inlets on walls allowing air to penetrate. Then, the waste is put into this plastic container, such as food, grass and newspapers when food and grass take 15cm each. In the third step, nitrogen and hot water (cold water is not permitted) are injected in. In the fourth container, we can see the heat coming from the bottom. After 6 months, the stored compost—green fertiliser—is formed and ready to go for gardening.
In short, the scheme of organic fertiliser production has been described above clearly.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
The three bar charts illustrate a survey of the consuming habit in music albums in Britain by sex and age group.
At first glance, we can notice that classical music is far less popular than pop or rock music. Compared to 17% of women, the rock market is mainly consumed by men with 30% buying rock. It is obvious that, according to the graphs, male buyers are more than female buyers in all types of music. We can also see that the pop music CD buyers are people from age 16 to 34 who take the highest percentage, followed by the male buyers with slightly under 30%. We see from the graph number one that need in pop music is steady from age 16 to 44 with 20% of the population continuing to buy pop CDs after 45 years old. For the classic music, however, the most active consuming, at 20%, is by people older than 45, and 25-34 age group takes the next place at 16% approximately.
In sum, we would see the market distriburion of the three kinds of music albums in the UK clearly.

Practice 3 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Students at schools and universities learn far more from lessons with teachers than from other sources (such as the Internet and television). To what extent do you agree or disagree? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Rapid development of technology provides convenience and freshness for many aspects of people’s life, including education. Nowadays, students become more reliable on computers for research and are often asked to hand in a perfect paper by schools. Others even have decided to give up the original way of learning and to obtain knowledge through online institutions. These changes in learning and teaching methords have aroused a special concern regarding the fading of teacher s’ giving lectures in classrooms.
Some people observe that compared with that of an original classroom, the role of teachers is beginning to drop because computers can help students study faster. For example, in the classroom, most of students’ intellectual capacities can not be activated, and thus some would be confined to a slow advance in their studies because of others' lower capacity of understanding. However, thanks to the new study mode, pupils could progress in their acquisition of knowledge at their own pace.
The presence of teachers, however, is essential for students because human interaction plays positive and significant roles which can hardly be replaced by the cold machines. Firstly, from teachers, students can gain more than mere knowledge in the textbooks. They can cultivate their interest in certain subjects and establish emotions with students and teachers. They can learn the importance of communication through working in a group and how to respect other students. Furthermore, it is necessary to have teachers in the learning process to learn students' deficiencies and help them solve their problems by repeating explanations, giving extra instructions or even suggesting a tutor. Hence, students can have a bigger chance of passing exams.
To conclude, although computers and the Internet do brings convenience and speed, the role of teachers in the learning process is still very important and it will continue to be in the future because machines cannot replace human interaction.

Practice 4 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: As global trade increases, many goods, even some daily goods, are exported to another country, which includes long-distance transport during shipping. Do you think its benefits outweigh its drawbacks? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
As globalization develops, people worldwide can easily get access to international goods of all kinds. Some may make emphasis on the benefits of long-distance transportation, but others believe that the drawbacks outweighs the benefits. Personally, both sides of the issue should be considered.
There are three benefits of international goods: Firstly, importing those international goods, to some extent, enriches diversities of the goods locally so that, citizens do obtain more choices for the same category of commodities. Secondly, some global companies build some local plants in order to lower its costs of goods, which enlarges the market of employment for local residents. Without it, countless local people will be out of work. Lastly, it leads to healthy competition, with which the international companies will help the local government to eliminate some unqualified companies in the first round. If the local and the global companies can work together, it will form a win-win situation undoubtedly.
However, the disadvantages should also be taken into account: On the one hand, long-distance transportation means more fuels and therefore more wastes entered into the air. For instance, the global shipping requires a huge amount of oils and other resources, which will produce more pollution to the air, water and soil. On the other hand, the costs of goods will definitely contain transport charges and tariffs, which will increase the price of goods when they come to the consumers after a long distance. The more imported goods people want, the more money they will pay for those stuff.
All in all, it is better and smarter to use global cooperation to develop the local companies, and effective and efficient to hunt for some imported goods for local residents.

Practice 5 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: In some countries the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing. What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Today, more and more countries are experiencing a situation where their citizens are becoming heavier, less fit, and more unhealthy. The causes of this are clear, and there are many possible solutions. I shall look at the causes and a couple of possible solutions in this essay.
In almost all cases, the causes of increased weight are excessive eating and/or lack of exercise. If a person eats more calories than they use, they will certainly gain weight. If they do not exercise enough, this weight gain will become fat and too much fat results in health problems such as obesity and depression. The solutions, therefore, are simple enough—to convince people to consume fewer calories and/or exercise more.
This is easier said than done. Nowadays, more and more people have access to an increasing amount of food. Many people prefer food that is high in calories—perhaps because they think it tastes better or because it is faster and more convenient. One way of getting them to eat fewer calories can be to show them tastier dishes quickly prepared with lower calories.
Another solution is to have people do more exercise, so that the calories eaten are less of a problem. This could be done by reducing the cost of keeping fit and by creating better infrastructure. Financing sports and exercise facilities could be pricey, but there are long-term savings as well as benefits if people are healthier as a result. If every neighbourhood had easily accessible sports and exercise facilities, people would be able to use them much more often.
In conclusion, there are two main causes of weight increase and there are several possible solutions to tackle it.

Tour Fever Should Be Cooled Down As a new and expanding industry, tourism is attracting more and more public attention. Consequently, both arguments and counter-arguments concerning its development have emerged as time goes on. I’d like to focus on its counteraction on social progress.
Above all, tourism sometimes leaves the local people psychologically unbalanced. Because it is usually people from better-off countries or regions that can afford to travel, their wealth sometimes makes the local people more aware of their own poverty.
Next, the exploitation of tourism is bound to destroy some natural resources and scenic areas. Environmental pollution is a case in point and its far-reaching harm is self-evident.
Therefore, it is advisable to discourage rather than encourage tourism at the period when the worldwide economy development has not reached to a balanced state.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
As a social member, few of us can avoid the overwhelming influence of news media, through which we can get full information of the outside world efficiently. Some believe that news media have positive impact, but others disagree. Personally, I believe that news media contribute much more than people realize.
There is no doubt that some people or institutions try to mislead the public by making up fake news for the sake of private interests. But this situation only appears on a few occasions and most mainstream media are still reliable when providing genuine information constantly, through which we can know the latest policy or big events going on, so news media have more positive impacts obviously.
Positive sides can be manifested from three aspects. To begin with, it is one of the most important ways to spread information in modem society efficiently. In other words, news media update their information not by the day, but the minute or even the second. Moreover, from those news media, people can not only judge trends by reviews of the public but also receive useful advice from specialists and experts, which will be of benefit to making decisions. Most importantly, it is the news media that establish a platform, on which laymen and experts get chances of equal communication. Without it, there will always be a gap between the decision makers and the public.
To sum up, news media are more than a way of spreading information in modern society, as they provide people with a window to outer world and a forum of communication which enables everyone to participate in the Information Age.

Write about the following topic: People can perform everyday tasks, such as shopping and banking as well as business transactions, without meeting other people face-to-face. What are the effects of this on an individual and society as a whole? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Asking if virtual life will replace real life is like asking if singles' chatrooms will replace real dating. Human face-to-face interaction is, and will always be, the most effective form of communication.
First and foremost. Live meetings deliver more potent experiences that virtual meetings cannot. They deliver motivation along with messages, and inspiration with information. Face to face allow people to observe others to make better judgment or use more than words to express their ideas. That's why corporations that want to inspire a sales force to perform better or build confidence with customers are continuing to rely on the punch that live events deliver, namely, expos.
Still, while the virtual meetings will never entirely replace the live ones, the technology has a place within physical events, which shows the advantage over face-to-face communication. The shortcomings of the traditional meeting model, with a presenter talking on the stage and passive audience wasting time, have become clear with the rise of interactive and social networking instruments. These advances provided companies to incorporate better peer-to-peer and audience-to-presenter interaction. On the contrary, virtual life also isolates people without notice. Due to lack of timely feedback and negotiation, confusion and misunderstandings will spring out. High technology can hardly show emotions and feeling fully and properly. Emoticons can not tell everything. In other words, it is difficult to convey sarcasm or anger in an email or a text.
In summary, face-to-face and virtual chat will coexist in modem society. Personally, I am not in favor of having arguments electronically. Technology can be great to get in contact with someone and very convenient when they further along in a relationship, but never use it as a replacement for the real thing. For all of its usefulness, it is very hard to cuddle with a cell phone.

Write about the following topic: In countries where there is a high rate of unemployment, most pupils should be offered only primary education. However, others believe that higher education helps people find jobs. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion. You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Being faced with a high rate of unemployment, many people begin to doubt the role or the purpose of receiving education, as high degree is not a stepping-stone to a successful career. Some people believe that a basic education can be enough to meet demands of job market and fulfill the requirements of a person's lifetime. However, others hold an opposite perspective on this issue. As far as I am concerned, unemployment has nothing to do with education itself, which is just not consistent with demands.
First of all, when it comes to basic education, it has at least obvious advantages: On the on hand, it is primary education that establishes the foundation of all subjects one should master, which can be frequently used in daily life. Moreover, only learning from the very basic level, one may have the chance to get to know something deeper in the future. On the other hand, and more importantly, through primary education, one can cultivate his desire and interest of learning. Without the interests in study, it is impossible for anyone to promote himself to higher levels. Like the foundation of a building, primary education is the foundation to build one's life education upon.
Furthermore, further education has its unique benefits: firstly, one can get the whole picture of a particular subject from higher education in college, which can benefit one's life constantly. Secondly, Uplifting one's life quality asks for two important elements: wealth and taste, which can be both gained from further education.. In other words, one can be a comprehensive person, not only learning his major, but also enjoying literature, art and music.
Lastly, it is a fantastic chance to meet and talk with people who share something in common in higher levels of education. Universities are like a stage or platform, on which people can consolidate the friendship they have for one another.

What are the benefits of each study method and which one do you think is more effective? You should write at least 250 words.

As for choosing a better way of learning, some people believe that group learning is efficient in many aspects, while, others, on the contrary, think that individual learning can be give big harvests. Personally, both sides of the issue should be taken into consideration as follows.
The benefits of teamwork can be illustrated from two aspects: For one thing, the solidarity and power of a team can not be compared with by only an individual, which makes it possible the accomplishment of more advanced and tougher missions And at the same time, one can learn the good points which they do not have from their partners. For the other thing, it is also significant for people to improve their communicative skills in learning and social activities. Apparently, interpersonal relationships are among the most important ones in people's daily activities. At the same time, group learning means more people are sharing the fees, which can lower the ecomic burden of students. Anyhow, abtaining an equal chance to pursue education is of fundamental importance.
When it comes to learning individually, however, also two main benefits should be manifested: Firstly, it cultivates one's independence step by step. In other words, one tries to explore what he wants to learn through learning and thinking individually. Moreover, if one has to accomplish a project all by himself, it will be definitely necessary for him to devote himself to studying without any disruptions. With preoccupation, he may discover something new, besides discovering knowledge already existing, which is superior to group learning.
To sum up, both group and individual learning are essential to students. The ways vary from person to person based on one’s own demands and desires of learning. To solve this problem more efficiently and effectively, governments and experts should consider over this issue more insightfully and prudently.

Write about the following topic: Some people think that the detailed criminal description on newspaper and TV has bad influences, so this kind of information should be restricted on the media. To what extent do you agree or disagree? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Whenever we turn on TV or read a newspaper, more often than not we can read a lengthy description of atrocious crime, which has become so-called features of modern media. I, as one of common readers, advocate the proposal that such reports should be strictly controlled, if no abolished.
Alarmingly, those criminal descriptions wield adverse influence on audience, especially fragile youngsters. Due to vulnerable mentality and lack of ample experience, upon contacting violent programmes, those kids are tempted to follow suit, thus breaking the law and such juvenile delinquencies are too often to be ignored. If this trend is out of control, then more teenagers will fall victim to those evil reports.
Moreover, numerous would-be criminals can learn skills of committing crimes from similar cases so the police find it more formidable to crack down on crimes efficiently. Although the original purpose of crime description is to warn people against offenses and teach them valuable lessons, the fact is that there, indeed, exists a discrepancy between what is desired and what is achieved. The latest research reveals that some habitual law-breakers have access to criminal skills and even the police’s detective methods from TV programmes and newspaper stories about crimes. By contrast, if we restrict strictly the programmes of tackling criminal cases, the ways employed by the police to combat crimes will be kept as the top secret, and it is out of the question to be disclosed to the public, especially those potential offenders.
Granted, criminal content, which is not a usual experience for commons, can enhance the TV rating substantially. Satisfying people’s curiosity and adding varieties to choices, those programmes can always attract more audience. As for me, however, the overwhelming detriments have overshadowed whatever benefits.
Overall, no matter what excuse media can find for detailed criminal description, there should be a strict regulation to limit such broadcasting. Government and relevant organizations should cooperate fully, guaranteeing healthier circumstances.

But in some countries, the use of alternative sources of energy, including wind and solar power, are encouraged. Is this trend a positive or a negative development? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
The competition between nations largely depends on who can have a head start in energy after Industrial Revolution, as many mainstream energy sources are not renewable. Some people believe that traditional fuels, namely coal, oil, and gas, are the main sources rather than alternative sources like wind energy and solar energy. In my opinion, alternative sources of energy should be encouraged to utilize throughout the world.
Human beings’ use of energy in fossil fuels has had a long history and already gained popularity in most countries. Nonetheless, those traditional resources are exhaustible and will dry up in a foreseeable future. Alternative ways should be found for a sustainable future.
There are mainly two benefits of using alternative resource: Firstly, most new energies are green, i.e. environmental friendly, and using alternative sources reduce the environmental pollution.. Secondly, alternative sources of energy are regarded as relatively more sustainable, and are more likely to meet the increasing demands of social and cultural development in modern society. It is often considered, however, that using alternative sources of energy such as nuclear energy is a quite dangerous thing for human beings and our planet. Some other alternative sources of energy like wind energy and solar energy are not quite effective for the sake of huge cost.
In summary, the use of the alternative sources can accelerate social development and push the whole world forward rapidly, which does no harm to the environment and has high effectiveness. As technology advances day by day, it is hopeful that all the countries can use green energy at a low cost.

Discuss both views and give your opinion. You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Nowadays, environmental protection has become an urgent task, and who should take the responsibility or more responsibility? Some experts believe that as long as all the citizens take actions on to protect the environment, could the pollution problem be solved. On the contrary, others think that some problems are too big for citizens and the government should take the duty. Personally, the two sides can not be separated.
There are at least three things which are within individual’s reach: Firstly, developing green habits is contributing to the environment. It is a good one to conserve nonrenewable resources in daily routines. Not only should people make full use of the nonrenewable resources but also try to use some alternative ones. Secondly, it is fashionable for young people to follow the new trend called the low-carbon lifestyle. The idea of “low carbon” is to complete daily routines without discharging much waste. Lastly, people can also enhance the green awareness day by day as the society makes progress. If people have environmental-friendly values, they will protect the local surroundings without deliberate reminders.
Individuals, however, can not do everything as their capabilities are limited. Firstly, as for some huge constructions like dams or power stations, it is impossible for individuals to build or even think about them out of the restriction of funds and labors. Furthermore, individuals do not have force to stop illegal damages to the environment. Only if the legislative authorities draw up and put into practice relevant laws can citizens have rules to obey and can the destroyers be punished based on legal grounds. Lastly, citizens can only realize the importance on their own, but there is little chance to popularize these ideas to the public, so the media should make more effort by designing a theme TV program about eco-protection for the general public to have a full awareness of eco-protection.
As is mentioned above, protecting the local environment is the obligation for both individuals and the government. The government should make more efforts and build a platform on which citizens can have the chance to make some contributions.

As a popular slogan goes, The whole globe is just a meter away. With the development of technology, the entire world shrinks into a village in a few decades, which brings about more clashes among people from different races. Someone pushes the so-called solution forward that it is better to divide people into groups according to races. However, this can never solve the problem but only aggravate it.
Admittedly, living in a multi-cultural community with full freedom and without any restriction is a nightmare for everyone indeed. The racial conflicts and residential differentiation would be a huge barrier for all the residents living together. However, if they can do everything cautiously by taking the cultural differences into account, living in this kind of surroundings will offer a great opportunity to enjoy much more communication worldwide in one's short lifetime, which will attract countless people to look forward to the multi-cultural life experience.
Obviously, among all the benefits of multi-cultural society, the following two reasons should, at least, be specially mentioned: First, The colorful and diverse community can deepen the understanding between one people and another. In other words, if people plan to imitate others' custom or behaviour, it is better to understand it before their copying it. Second, it is a shame and inhumane for all modem citizens to discriminate anyone living in any circumstance. In fact, all the people are nothing but simply and most importantly, all creatures have the equal right to live on the earth, so it is not necessary to hold some stereotypes against others. Multi-cultural society is a remarkable stage in history, and more likely it is warfare against the Racism, which will finally succeed without any doubt.
As is mentioned above, racism and multi-culture are contradictory with each other, which should be sensibly solved. As capable human beings, we may regard others’ lifestyles improper, but we should respect them no matter whether we like them or not.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Throughout the history of human being, people are always pursuing happiness while nobody can give a definition nor can a consensus be achieved. Generally, happiness consists of two levels: material level and spiritual level. As far as I am concerned, spiritual happiness can bring people with greater satisfaction.
To begin with, being happy is not a mood under certain circumstances, but a person with a certain set of attitudes. It is difficult for anyone to get what he wants without a great deal of effort. After making great and arduous effort, even if the target is achieved as expectation, there is nothing left but suffering and pain, because he amplifies the efforts rather than emphasizes the harvests. To reach the happiness they seek, however, the only thing people should do is to change their attitude toward happiness, and the way they look at the world around them.
Moreover, happiness is not what people are born with but what people take action to get. Many people seek their unique happiness through imagination and daydreams. Obviously, everyone fantasies sometimes. But, without actions, no one can come close to finding the happiness he seeks. Happiness and bliss cannot be found merely through unrealistic envision, but must be sought through actions, through doing.
To sum up, although we say that happiness is rooted in optimistic attitudes, it can never be achieved without any effort. It arises spontaneously from within as small goals are reached.

An increase in production of consumer goods results in damage of the natural environment, what are the causes and possible solutions?
A hot debate goes on and on for effective remedies to solve the plight between the increasing consumer goods and environmental problems. And so much attention paid on this difficult issue. From my perspective, I believe that some major environment impairing is tightly related to modern consumerism and I will put forward solutions then.
To begin with, the fast step of modern lifestyle contributes to the rubbish increase, since so many people prefer the use of disposable items for the convenience's sake. As a result, excessive garbage has been accumulating on our earth. The favor of disposables, hence, should take the blame. Products are ready to be thrown away since they have been manufactured. Subsequently, either the creation or dumping of popular products bringing great harm to the residents nearby since that they will release tremendous poisonous elements .in the air, soil, even in the sea. While, even when people come to realize their evil, they remain pursuing their profits regardless of any side effects to the environment.
Second, the relentless pursuit of consumerism also contributes a lot to the issue mentioned above. For example, animals are sacrificed to devote their fur or leather for human's vanity, giving rise to the lost of bio-diversification danger. Besides, the crazy hunger for luxury goods leading to the shrinking of Amazon forest or mangrove along the shores, results in abnormal climate world-wide. Motor vehicle and aircraft are the most notorious examples in this regard. A vicious circle might be just around the corner if man does not learn how to resist the endless obsession of consumerism. The global warming is a sign of future risk and we should take measures to solve the problem.
In response to solve this increasing adverse effect, some viable solutions must be put forward.  To begin with, carbon-footprint cutting, committed by political figures and scientists globally, is a good start. Then, If possible, government should take stronger and harsher measures to combat the littering behavior, such as hefty fines. Last but not least, people must be called on to live simpler life—less luxurious consumer goods.
All in all, as is indicated above, it is inevitable that the higher pressure of population and over—industrialization will lead to larger scale of consumer goods production. In a whole, the major reasons why consumer goods production deteriorates the ecosystem and measures proposed have been listed above.

Changing Criteria for Good Students Years ago, good college students simply meant students good at academic work. On being admired in a college or university, students usually work hard just to be “on top”. Most of their campus time was spent in classrooms, reading rooms, and laboratories.
But the criteria for good students are changing now. True, good marks continue to be some students: dream, yet there are a growing number of students who are concerned much more about extracurricular activities for all-round development. They involve in community services and activities. Some students even become campus “businessmen” or “businesswomen” by starting or serving in self-supporting businesses.
The changes are better, and since the time is different, the job market demands personnel with varied skills. Therefore, the student’s today are, in a sense, better prepared for challenge and competition upon graduation.

Practice 4 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Money for postgraduate research is limited. Therefore some people think that financial support from governments should only be provided for scientific research rather than research for less useful subjects. Do you agree or disagree? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
It is known to all that postgraduate research plays a vital role in advance of various subjects. However, the investment is so limited that many people maintain that the government should only support the scientific ones which are useful so that greater profits can be generated. Personally, I can not agree with this view.
No one can question the importance of scientific research as it is closely related with our living standard and earns great advantage for a nation. However, if only science was emphasized, the society would lose balance. More essentially, it is hard to distinguish “useful” from “useless.”
In order to solve this problem, the government can take action from at least three aspects: First, the government should collect more funds via legislative rules or it can employ some companies to do so. Taxation and investment can be strong supports to school research. Second, the research laboratories should and have to use fund distributed efficiently and effectively. Although the government has the obligation to support their researches, they can never waste the money on private expenditures. Last but not the least, the government as the macro leader, it should not judge the value of something in a short-sighted view. Subjects which are seemingly useless at the present stage probably have great potential in the future.
To sum up, it is an inevitable obligation to invest money in doing research for college students and staff. And the government should treat all subjects equally without narrow minds.

Practice 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Many people are busy with work and do not have enough time to spend with families and friends. Why does this happen? What are the effects of this on family life and society as a whole? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
Imagine that you are in a car parked on the road during rush hour for more than one hour. You may be regretful for wasting such a long time and losing time to get together with family. This question will be the main topic of the following essay; besides, it will also tall about its effects at the same time.
As for those brief-case men and white collar, they have to cope with a lot of issues at work. And thus only leave their families a small amount of time. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, living in modern society, it is impossible to avoid the pressure from both inside and outside. In order to maintain a good public praise or just get a further promotion, people not only care about their own feelings but those of others’ as well. Secondly, the world is full of material stimulation, encouraging people to chase their happiness, materially. Without money, no one can live in society in his most-wanted way. In order to own a satisfactory living standard, they have no choice but work harder. Last but not least, the advances of modern technology enable people to communicate with each other without seeing each other. This is almost a tragedy for mankind. If we spend all our time on the Internet, we will lose so many traditional ways like face-to-face talking and body language.
Also, the influence of this issue should never be neglected for society: Cumulative stress from work becomes the potential health killer. People are easily infected with psychological illnesses like anxiety, eccentricity and insomnia. In addition, due to materialism and realism, society as a whole has easily become money-oriented, where people make judgments of achievements just according to the materials. Finally, over-dependence on telecommunication leads to the lack of recalling traditions and rethinking of the history and culture, which is a shame for civilized people.
Naturally, a profession is fundamental for all modern city dwellers without any question. However, the family is the ultimate destination for them indeed.

Practice 5 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: It has been suggested that everyone in the world want to own a car, a TV and a fridge. Do you think disadvantages of such a development outweigh the advantages? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
To judge the changes of life quality over time, people have to think from two points: do what they gain outweigh what they lose? And is what they gain all what they want? A naive approach, but one, which may be useful is: If their lives are full of pleasant things, they consider the things worth doing and themselves doing well, while if their lives are full of pain, they consider themselves to be suffering. Obviously, material and spiritual needs are both important.
Pursuits for many people in modern times are cars, house and things like these. When families do have cars and the like, they will benefit from these things in two aspects: For one thing, the life quality will greatly and positively improve such as driving one's private car on a snowy day without suffering from cold and the wet. For another, for a modem citizen, it is more or less a must-do to catch up with the novel trends of lifestyles In other words, in fact, it is not that they choose to use those things, but that those things choose to live with them, to be exact.
However, if we ignored the dark side of all these stuff, we would be fooled by these stuff without doubt. First, production, transportation and usage of those electrical appliances and vehicles leads to countless environmental issues like air pollution, noise and radiation, all of which cause many drawbacks to both human beings and natural beings at the same time. Second, running after things like private cares and LED TVs and competing with others will ignite the desire for materialism and lead to a vicious circle. Namely, people will judge their living standard depending on the material stuff they get and comparing with others. This will be a disaster if people seek only material comforts without spiritual pursuit.
All in all, if we finally recognize the truth and myth of living standard consisting of both material satisfaction and spiritual pursuit, owning stuff like cars is a choice but not a necessity for all citizens who should enjoy themselves also with family bonds, culture and faith.

Practice 4 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: In the past, people used to travel to see the differences from their home country. However, the sceneries in places around the world seem similar nowadays. What are the causes of these similarities? Do you think that the advantages of this similarity outweigh the disadvantages? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
People who travel to different places aim to expand their horizons by witnessing distinct views in every unique culture and nation. However, there is a strange trend that many places of interest are looking similar.
Why do the scenic spots tend to be built into the same look? An arch-criminal is probably globalization, which makes the distance between nations shrink. Those developing countries are likely to imitate those who greatly succeed in developing tourism, which lead to flooding similarities. Secondly, it is a common phenomenon that people have a sense of security when they travel to a strange place, especially when they are in trouble or danger. Finding somewhere like their hometown comforts their moods and getting some spiritual consolation.
The question, however, is whether this situation is positive or negative for both tourists and residents. To begin with the positive one, through the comparison between different countries, the passion for establishing their national consciousnesses can be ignited. The more one sees in another world, the more he will think about his own living situations natively. From the other side, the same image all around the world leads to the extinction of diversified cultures, which reflect the  fulfilled with vivid colorful art and long-lasting historical stories. If the whole world looks uniformly the same, tourism disappears as well as all the regional conventions and treasures.
To conclude based on my personal experience of traveling domestically and abroad, I suggest that people had better see more and feel more in their very a limited lifetime. Even better, one should absorb more with the very soul that the native is the best of all.

Practice 7 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Most countries want to improve standard of living through economic development; however, others think social value is lost as a result. Do you think the advantages of economic development outweigh the disadvantages? You should write at least 250 words.

    正确答案: 【参考范文】
The prosperous economy ushers the new era of modern life style, which greatly uplift the living standard of human beings. However, material improvements come at a cost of the core values of the society, which rapidly become outdated and even go extinct in spite of financial prosperity. Neither of these two sides, however, should be neglected.
There is no doubt that economic advance does benefit citizens as well as the society as a whole. For one thing, it may help complete infrastructure in public places such as parks, hospitals, schools, and the mass transit system, all of which provide citizens with more choices and greater convenience, The more basic facilities the local government provides, the higher living conditions people will enjoy free of charge. For another, thanks to the economic boom, after material demands are fulfilled, people have spare strength and energy to pursue spiritual satisfaction. In other words, the great development of economy makes spiritual pursuits possible in reality.
However, it is not that easy to maintain social value at the same time with economic boom. Once people pay more attention to one side, the scale will tilt. First of all, due to the increasing of money-oriented values in society, people may become isolated from each other in order to pursue profits individually. It is not unusual to see that friends and relatives go separate ways for one simple reason: interest. Second, the irreversible destruction in society is nothing but moral deficiency and scarcity of trust. Without morality and trust, people might do anything to manage to run after the highest profits. More severely, they may even set traps for their companions or take part in a conspiracy rather than help them to earn money.
In conclusion, society needs more morality and correct values, which is more important than unbridled economic development. To accomplish this, the government and experts should pursue a sustainable policy without wavering.
