Harmfulness of Fake Commodities Nowadays there is a growing concern among general public about the issue of enormous fake commodities. In the supermarket, you may buy some fake food commodities. In the pharmacist’s, you may buy some fake medicine. Fake commodities are prevalent and have disturbed our everyday life.
The deep root of this phenomenon lies in someone’s greed for money. In order to get a large amount of money in a short time with little costs, they try every means to produce fake commodities, without any regard for other people’s benefit and health.

Getting to Know the World Outside the Campus With the development of our society, the campus is no longer an “Ivory Tower”. It is necessary for college students to go outside to get to know the world. They should acquire knowledge not only from books but also from the society. Thus they can adapt to society more quickly after they graduate from school. Science and technology are developing rapidly with each passing day. Most students can keep themselves informed by watching TV, listening to the radio, reading newspapers and using computers. It’s also good to take a part-time job, such as tutoring, or working in a restaurant. Any of these methods will enable students to get in touch with society.

Which to Celebrate—the Western or Eastern Festivals? Nowadays, most young people are willing to celebrate western festivals. As a result, importance should be attached to the issue of festival celebration.
As to which to celebrate, there exist different ideas. For one thing, western festival celebrations are so colorful and interesting. Just imagine the romantic atmosphere on St. Valentine’s Day, the fun on All Fool’s Day and the ecstasy brought by gifts and games at Christmas. For another, Chinese festivals have their own attractions. Think about the comfort of family reunion during Spring Festival and the delicacy of national feelings on many occasions.
As for me, some meaningful western festivals are no doubt days to set aside as special. Meanwhile, I cannot afford to be absent from family gathering during many Chinese festivals. My celebration would be a combined one, some for western festivals, some for Chinese ones.

Holiday Economy The long holidays have caused unexpected great travel craze and brisk economic activities. Holiday spending, not only adds fuel to the Chinese economy, but also leads to the creation of a new term “holiday economy”.
Some economists are in favor of the holiday economy and they believe it has many advantages. Firstly, tourism-based holiday economy will raise consumption, up spending and, therefore, help to spur the domestic demand. Secondly, it benefits tourism, transportation, and hotel and service industries and enables them to thrive during holidays.
However, others overstate its disadvantages and hold that it brings undeniable problems: Thousands and thousands of tourists flood into scenic spots, jamming railway stations and airports, causing some over-crowdedness and safety problems.

21st Century: Newspaper vs. Internet In modern world, the role of newspaper is being seriously challenged by the booming IT industry or Internet. As a matter of fact, nowadays nearly everything starts with an “e”, and newspaper will be replaced by other computer-based means of information transportation.
In the first place, newspaper can never match the Internet in its speed. Actually, information of any kind can be transported digitally at up to 300 million meters per second. In a world of efficiency, newspaper can be defeated for this reason solely.
Furthermore, with the Internet, information can be transmitted in a three-dimensional way, which consists of sound, live-show and even interaction, whereas in the paper, only words and photographs could be presented. Therefore, the former is more vivid and descriptive.

My Idea of Professional Ethics for a Scientist There is no denying that a distinguished scientist should not only be learned and creative but also have good professional ethics for the good of both society and the scientist himself. But what are good professional ethics for a scientist?
In my opinion, a scientist should possess the following qualities. First of all, an eminent scientist should make sure that his knowledge is used to bring benefits to the general public rather than to make his personal gains. He should devote himself to the advancement of technology, with the aim of raising the living standards of people and making our world a better place to live in. Secondly, as a respectable scientist, he should be on good terms with other scientists. Cooperation and mutual trust between scientists are very critical for scientific achievements. Thirdly, a good scientist should be honest and respect the work of others. Never should he copy from others or falsify research findings. Last but not the least, a scientist should be a responsible person. He should not make any hasty decisions. Once a decision is made he should shoulder its consequence.

    【范文】
The best holidays are the ones spent in a different country. Do you absolutely reach an agreement with me? At least, I suggest so. Regarding the reasons, the following example related to my own experience can prove everything.
Several years ago, I was lucky to have an opportunity to go to Singapore to have a summer camp with my high middle school teachers. We have stayed there for about half a month. During that period of time, we had interviewed many high middle schools, and we exchanged our experience of teaching, learning, school management and so on. In that way, we had truly gained much valuable experience. We also paid several visits to some beautiful tourist attractions that were quite different from those of China. Lastly I had also found that Singapore is a country with severe laws for protecting pubic sanitation. It is very easy to find that the country is very clean and tidy with fresh air permeating everywhere.
Till now, through spending holidays in a foreign country, we can really gain a great deal. We can get to know quite different forms of cultures and customs. We can enlarge our vision and may also make several friends from different nationalities. However, the journey abroad will cost you a large sum of money. In all, the benefits obviously outweigh its expenditure.

Reading Selectively or Extensively? Some think that when we read we should read selectively. That is to say, we should select some books we are interested in and ignore others. Reading selectively can help us concentrate our limited time and attention on those selected books.
Some others think when we read we should read extensively. That is to say, no matter what kind of book it is, we should read it through. Reading extensively can help us enlarge our view and grasp the general knowledge from different fields.
In my opinion, the two reading methods have their roles respectively in our reading. However, their own disadvantages are easy to see. If we only read selectively, the framework of our knowledge may not be complete. If we read extensively, we may not have so much time and energy to specialize in one particular field. Therefore, the combination of the two methods is more reasonable.

Immoral Behavior in Public To witness immoral behavior in public, one just needs to have a look at the bus stop. There are always lots of people waiting for buses at the bus stop. Few of them stand in line as required. Whenever a bus comes, many people just run to the bus and try to get on in chaos. Many of them push each other in an effort to get on first.
Immoral behavior in public leads to a series of problems. Among the most serious, one is that it may exert a negative effect on our sense of social responsibility. If we allow this kind of immoral behavior to continue, we are ignoring others’ rights and feelings, and in turn, we as well will be disrespected.
To improve this phenomenon is certainly not easy. In view of practical implementation, I propose that society make it clear at all points that people who fail to respect the common good will be seriously punished. Strict policies regarding this should be made to correct this phenomenon as soon as possible.

Above all, tourism sometimes leaves the local people psychologically unbalanced. Because it is usually people from better-off countries or regions that can afford to travel, their wealth sometimes makes the local people more aware of their own poverty.
Next, the exploitation of tourism is bound to destroy some natural resources and scenic areas. Environmental pollution is a case in point and its far-reaching harm is self-evident.

    【范文】
Can Money Buy Happiness? I have once seen a caricature that depicted an ironic picture: a man who is overloaded with a pretty large piece of gold is making every effort to creep forward. However, there is much to say about it. It gives a vivid expression to a serious topic—Can money buy happiness?
Money means wealth—social wealth as well as personal wealth. Making money is creating wealth. The more money you have, the wealthier you are. To increase wealth is what a person desires and what society needs. A person’s desire can never be satisfied and social progress has no ending. Therefore, making money is one of essential activities that identify a person’s existence.
Happiness is referred to as enjoyable experiences that people are feeling. To some extent, enjoyable experiences result from a person’s mental satisfaction. People can never get satisfied with making money, so money is something distant from happiness. Although the man mentioned above is possessed of much money, he is suffering from the weight of gold. It is not exceptional that some millionaires are not happy at all in life. Indeed, money can buy wealth, but it cannot buy happiness if inappropriately used.
Nevertheless money is not in contradiction to happiness when making money is regarded as a means to attain a definite goal. In a word, more attention should be focused on orientation of life when it comes to the subject—Can money buy happiness?

Living in the College Town In recent years, college towns have been thriving across China as a result of rapid economic and cultural development. Students hold different views on living in these remote areas of their cities.

And what annoys them more is that they are detached from normal campus life and they find few teachers to interact with. However, quite a number of students argue that staying away from the bustling surroundings will eventually benefit their academic performance.
As one of the students living in a college town, I have deeply experienced the inconvenience and monotony. Therefore, some measures should be taken so that more attention can be given to the students in the college town. On the one hand, more cultural events and recreation activities can be launched. On the other hand, a closer teacher-student relationship should be established so as to strengthen their communication.
