问答题
Practice 3 In men, good looks is a whole, something taken in at a glance. It does not need to be confirmed by giving measurements of different regions of the body; nobody encourages a man to dissect his appearance, feature by feature. As for perfection, that is considered trivial—almost unmanly. Indeed, in the ideally good-looking man a small imperfection or blemish is considered positively desirable. To preen, for a woman, can never be just a pleasure. It is also a duty. It is her work. If a woman does real work—and even if she has clambered up to a leading position in politics, law, medicine, business, or whatever—she is always under pressure to confess that she still works at being attractive. But in so far as she is keeping up as one of the Fair Sex, she brings under suspicion her very capacity to be objective, professional, authoritative, thoughtful. Damned if they do—women are. And damned if they don’t. How easy it is to start off by defining women as caretakers of their surfaces, and then to disparage them (or find them adorable) for being “superficial”. It is a crude trap, and it has worked for too long. But to get out of the trap requires that women get some critical distance from the excellence and privilege which is beauty, enough distance to see how much beauty itself has been abridged in order to prop up the mythology of the “feminine”. There should be a way of saving beauty from women—and for them.

    Old Man Myths and Realities

1 When does a middle-aged man become an old man?Officially,of course,it's when we
reach retirement age. But, as we all know, this is a fairly blunt(生硬的)method of
decision making. As life expectancy(预期寿命)increases, retirement planning needs to
be changed .This is because being an old man today is very different from what it was a
    generation or so ago.
2 Sixty-five is the new middle-aged man. These days people are talking about the young-
old, that is ages 70-75,and those over 75 as the old-old. The young-old frequently
continue in good health and maintain strong links with friends and family. The old-old have a
much higher chance of poor health and social isolation.
3 Although men are living longer, there are still more old women than old men. This fact
alone should arouse interest as to why.Relatively little is actually known about why this is
the case or about the experiences of the old man .Sure,we are aware that the old man
experiences anxiety, financial problems, loneliness, etc.,but that's really about all we
    know.
4 It is usually believed that the old man often complains about their health. In fact, most
rate their health as good even though most are diagnosed with at least one chronic illness.
The physical health of the old man is strongly affected by their health behavior when they
    were younger.

Nowadays men generally live longer than_________.

When I opened the first "Body Shop" in 1976, what I wanted to do was to earn (挣) enough money to feed my children. Today the "Body Shop" is a great company growing fast all around the world. In the years since we began, I have learned a lot. Much of what I have learned will be found in this book, because I believe that we, as a company, have something worth saying about how to run a successful business without giving up what you really believe in.
It's not an ordinary business book. It is not just about my life, either. The message is that to succeed in business you have to be different. Business can be fun, and can be run with love and do good. In business, as in life, I need to enjoy myself, to have a feeling of my family and to feel excited by something unusual. I have always wanted the people who work for the "Body Shop" to feel the same way.
Now this book sends these ideas out into the world, and makes them public. I'd like to think there are no limits (界限) to our "family", and no limits to what can be done. I find that an exciting thought. I hope you do, too.

What kind of person does the writer seem to be?

    A. She is mainly interested in making money.
    B. She thinks running a business a different job.
    C. She seems to be successful but unhappy.
    D. She seems to be someone with strong confidence.

    Old Man Myths and Realities

1.When does a middle-aged man become an old man?Officially,of course,it is when we reach retirement age. But, as we all know, this is a fairly blunt(生硬的)method of decision making. As life expectancy(寿命)increases, retirement planning needs to be changed. This is because being an old man today is very different from what it was a generation or so ago.
2.Sixty-five is the new middle-aged man. These days people are talking about the young-old, that is ages 70-75,and those over 75 as the old-old. The young-old frequently continue in good health and maintain strong links with friends and family. The old-old have a much higher chance of poor health and social isolation.
3.Although men are living longer, there are still more old women than old men. This fact alone should arouse interest as to why. Relatively little is actually known about why this is the case or about the experiences of the old man.Sure,we are aware that the old man experiences anxiety, financial problems, loneliness, etc.,but that is really about all we know.
4.It is usually believed that the old man often complains about their health. In fact, most old man think their health is good even though most are diagnosed with at least one chronic illness. The physical health of the old man is strongly affected by their health behavior when they were younger.

Nowadays men generally live longer than______.
    A:in good health
    B:in the past
    C:in the wrong
    D:the old man
    E:a middle-aged man
    F: a young man
