Chinese food (1)Chinese food has been considered to be the biggest cultural exchange between China and other countries. It is famous for its colors, aromatic flavors and the variety of its regional cuisines and ingredients.

The diversity of geography, climate, costumes and products have led to the evolution of what are called the ‘Four Flavors’ and ‘Eight Cuisines’ but as catering is a living art sub-classifications continue to increase. For example in each field of cuisine, adept chefs can utilize something as simple as a melon to create dozens of dishes with dozens of flavors. Meanwhile, local specialties and snacks with their origins steeped in the mists of time are also an important progeny and indicate a profound philosophy and taste. As well as the cuisine of the majority Han people, the many minorities have their own fantastic traditions and appeal.
(3)Chinese dishes are each unique in their own way yet all have exquisite flavors, wonderful presentations and deep cultural meanings. For example, Won Ton Soup, also called “Hun Dun” in Mandarin, is a highly welcoming dish in China. Since China is a nation of diverse ethnic groups and different cultures, each region has their own shapes for won tons. Won tons are usually boiled and served in soup, but they can also be deep-fried. The most versatile shape for won tons is a simple right triangle. Won ton’s flat profile allows it to be pan-fried like a pot sticker in addition to it being boiled or deep-fried. Many people might mix up won tons and dumplings, but they are totally different food. During the Spring Festival, Chinese families will get together and have dumpling parties. It is said that the dish was invented by Zhang Zhongjing, a famous Chinese physician in history. Dumplings have a 1,800-year-long history and this is why it is one of the most popular traditional foods in China and extremely popular in Western countries. They may be cooked by boiling, steaming, simmering, frying or baking.
(4)Just as the ingredients of each dish and presentation is important, table manners and courtesy among diners are very much part of the Chinese cultural tradition. The facility to partake of these delights is also distinctive — chopsticks! To see even the smallest child eat with chopsticks is quite amazing for many foreigners. The use of two simple sticks in this way is an art in itself and chopsticks have determined the way in which dishes are presented at table. Only by combining excellent dishes with good manners can the high art of Chinese cuisine be truly enjoyed to the full.
